What a wonderful legacy.
I came across this obit today.
I have a CD by Andy Bey & the Bey Sisters. It’s an album from the mid ‘60s. The Bey Sisters here are Salome and Geraldine.
I saw in the obit a quote from Salome’s sister Geraldine deHaas. That name rang a bell because she was on one of my favorite albums—an unlikely candidate, given that it’s a collection of Paul Anka songs. But she and Frank D’Rone really nailed them.
I then found this interview with Geraldine. Man, what a great lady she is! She brought White and Black audiences together in Chicago using jazz as the glue!
This woman inspires me to keep trying to figure out what it is that I want to “do” about my love for jazz.
