Known for her emotionally rich artistry and boundary-blurring sound that blends jazz, folk, and contemporary classical influences, Danielle brings a deeply personal and exploratory approach to vocal performance. The session will open with Danielle performing two songs from her acclaimed albums, sharing her artistic perspective and creative process. She’ll then work with three volunteer singers, offering personalized feedback and guidance to help each participant connect more deeply with their unique sound, phrasing, and emotional storytelling. Whether you’re singing or observing, you’ll come away inspired by Danielle’s artistry and her fresh, expansive view of what jazz singing can be. Danielle Wertz is an award-winning vocalist, composer, and arranger whose work blurs the boundaries between jazz, folk, and contemporary classical music. Praised by DownBeat Magazine for her “remarkably intimate, expressive and poignant” voice, she first gained recognition as the youngest semi-finalist in the 2015 Thelonious Monk Jazz Competition. Her debut album Intertwined (2017) and follow-up Other Side (2023) both received critical acclaim for their genre-blending artistry and emotional depth, with Paris Move calling her “an artist to watch.” Wertz has since emerged as a leading creative voice in cross-genre performance. Her Joni Mitchell/Leonard Cohen project Both Sides Now—co-created with Robbie Schaefer—earned rave reviews and national touring success, and her recent big band collaboration Silent Course with Remy Le Boeuf was hailed by DownBeat as “a sound garden of delights.” With upcoming residencies, commissions, and her first European tour on the horizon, Wertz continues to define a singular path as one of today’s most compelling and adventurous vocal artists.
