In this interactive Master Class, Kenny Washington will open by performing two songs live, followed by focused coaching with three participating singers. Working in real time, Kenny will address swing, phrasing, scat singing, and storytelling—sharing practical insights into how great jazz singing feels, flows, and connects. Kenny Washington is renowned for his soulful interpretations, seemingly limitless range, and rapid-fire scat. A New Orleans native now based in the San Francisco Bay Area, he has appeared multiple times at Jazz at Lincoln Center, performing with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra in the Pulitzer Prize–winning Blood on the Fields, as well as in major tributes celebrating Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald. His musical journey began in gospel music and instrumental study, and includes years of international touring as a featured vocalist with U.S. Navy bands—bringing depth, history, and lived experience to everything he teaches.

For One-Off Class Purchasers ($15 per class): Your $15 purchase gives you access only to the live session—recordings are not included. If you’d prefer to watch the class later, you can purchase just the video (without attending live) for $15. Video recordings are available under the Videos tab at JazzVoice.com. Please be sure you can attend before booking, as we do not offer refunds for missed or cancelled classes.
