Lucy Wijnands Master Class
November 5, 8:30PM ET
Description du service
Join award-winning jazz vocalist Lucy Wijnands for an intimate JazzVoice master class exploring interpretation, phrasing, swing, and finding your own voice within the jazz tradition. Lucy will open the session by performing two songs, giving us a chance to hear her approach to storytelling, time, phrasing, and connection to the lyric. She’ll then work one-on-one with three singers, offering individualized coaching and demonstrating how small musical and interpretive choices can transform a performance. Winner of the prestigious Ella Fitzgerald Jazz Vocal Competition, Lucy has quickly established herself as one of the compelling young voices on the jazz scene. She has toured internationally, completed a 16-week residency with the Birdland Big Band, and performed regularly at New York jazz clubs including Mezzrow. She has shared the stage with artists including Ron Carter, Jon Faddis, Paquito D’Rivera, Houston Person, Emmett Cohen, Pasquale Grasso, Peter Washington, and Johnny O’Neal. Raised in Kansas City and steeped in jazz from an early age, Lucy brings a deep connection to swing and the jazz tradition along with the perspective of a contemporary working vocalist. Whether you’re one of the singers in the hot seat or observing the master class, you’ll come away with ideas you can immediately bring to your own music.
