Join acclaimed vocalist and educator Christine Correa for an intimate and interactive vocal jazz master class. Christine will open the session by performing two songs, offering participants a chance to hear her distinctive approach to interpretation, improvisation, and musical expression in action. She’ll then work one-on-one with three singers, exploring their repertoire and offering insights that everyone can learn from. Known for her adventurous musicianship and highly personal approach to the voice, Christine has performed and recorded extensively in the U.S. and internationally. She has a long-standing musical collaboration with pianist Ran Blake and has appeared on numerous recordings with him, including their acclaimed explorations of the music associated with Abbey Lincoln, Mahalia Jackson, and film noir. She is a longtime faculty member at Columbia University and director of the Maine Jazz Camp. Whether you sing in the master class or observe, you’ll come away with new ideas about interpretation, communication, improvisation, and making a song your own.
