Whether you're just starting out or looking to refresh your approach, this workshop offers a foundational look at how to build and sustain a jazz career beyond the performance itself. We'll cover the fundamentals of creating an effective press kit, writing a compelling bio, and exploring current methods of promotion and publicity—including how to incorporate social media and emerging AI tools. Whether you're preparing for your first release or seeking fresh ideas to elevate your visibility, this session offers actionable guidance to help you present yourself with clarity and professionalism. Jazz Vocalist | Author | Educator | Integrative Embodiment Vocal Coach Praised by Jazz Journal International for her “superior jazz singing by an artist of the highest quality,” Ellen Johnson is a jazz vocalist, lyricist, author, and educator who has performed with many esteemed musicians such as David Sanborn, Bobby McFerrin, Charles McPherson, Sheila Jordan, Louie Bellson, and Don Braden. She has recorded and produced albums on her label, Vocal Visions, and her published lyrics include works for compositions by Charles Mingus and Sonny Rollins. Ellen is the author of Jazz Child: A Portrait of Sheila Jordan (Rowman & Littlefield), nominated for the Jazz Journalists Association’s Best Book Award.Her article, “The Vocal Music of Charles Mingus,” appears in The Jazz Omnibus: 21st Century Photos and Writings by Members of the Jazz Journalists Association (Cymbal Press, 2024). She holds advanced degrees in Vocal Performance and has served on the faculties of the University of San Diego, California Jazz Conservatory/Jazzschool, Cal Poly Pomona, and the Old Globe Theatre’s MFA program. As an Integrative Embodiment Vocal Coach, Ellen incorporates Frequency Medicine, Trauma-Informed Voice work, and Behavioral Psychoacoustics into her sound healing practice. Her ambient recording Amphitrite’s Longing weaves voice, nature sounds, and atmospheric textures to support meditation, grief, and emotional healing.

There's no penalty for cancelling, and it has no impact on your access. As a member, you also have unlimited access to both live classes and video recordings of all past sessions. For One-Off Class Purchasers ($15 per class): Your $15 purchase gives you access only to the live session—recordings are not included. If you’d prefer to watch the class later, you can purchase just the video (without attending live) for $15. Video recordings are available under the Videos tab at JazzVoice.com. Please be sure you can attend before booking, as we do not offer refunds for missed or cancelled classes.
