You’ll explore what makes these scenes unique, how the Latin American touring landscape actually works, and the strategies that lead to successful, sustainable tours. Matt also addresses common challenges, the crucial role of reciprocity and relationship-building, and the current realities of the jazz industry throughout the region. Whether you’re planning your first international tour or looking for smarter ways to grow your career, this session offers practical insight and fresh perspective on where jazz is thriving right now. Matt’s professional journey spans from his work with Jazz at Lincoln Center's Department of Concerts and Touring, at the Rose Hall,Appel Room and Dizzy's Club, to his international work in curation and cultural management. Matt has collaborated with top venues and managed tours for globally acclaimed artists like Joshua Redman, Samara Joy, Melissa Aldana, Richard Bona, Kurt Elling, Stacey Kent, Antonio Sánchez and more. He has been recognized as an important link between the Americas, having participated and facilitated intercultural collaborations on a large scale. He has also expanded artist and venue reach and engagement across the globe. In addition to his programming and curatorial work, Matt is an award-winning trombonist, producer and educator. He has been mentored by musicians such as Bill Charlap and Alan Raph, and has performed and taught extensively in the United States, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Panamá, Colombia and more. As a Queer, first-generation American from a Panamanian and artistic family, Matt’s work is profoundly influenced by his diverse heritage and experiences, embodying the resilience, creativity, and cultural richness that he strives to promote globally.

There's no penalty for cancelling, and it has no impact on your access. As a member, you also have unlimited access to both live classes and video recordings of all past sessions. For One-Off Class Purchasers ($15 per class): Your $15 purchase gives you access only to the live session—recordings are not included. If you’d prefer to watch the class later, you can purchase just the video (without attending live) for $15. Video recordings are available under the Videos tab at JazzVoice.com. Please be sure you can attend before booking, as we do not offer refunds for missed or cancelled classes.
