Descrizione del servizio
Clear charts lead to better rehearsals—and better performances. In this practical, vocalist-centered workshop, Atla DeChamplain shares proven strategies for creating charts that musicians can immediately understand and enjoy playing from. Topics include clean formatting, clear form markers, smart nomenclature, and a distinctive approach to cueing your band on what makes your arrangement unique. Whether you’re leading a band for the first time or refining your materials for pros, this class helps your music move confidently from page to performance. Atla DeChamplain is a jazz vocalist, lyricist, and educator celebrated for her compelling sound, sincere interpretations, and mastery of vocalese—the art of setting lyrics to instrumental jazz solos. A Connecticut native, she studied at the Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz at the Hartt School of Music and earned her Master’s degree from the University of Toledo, where she was mentored by the legendary Jon Hendricks. Her musical voice draws from jazz, blues, gospel, and R&B, informed by the traditions of Black American music. Alongside her husband, pianist Matt DeChamplain, Atla co-leads a band reimagining the Great American Songbook and presenting original work, with appearances at venues and festivals nationwide. Her debut album Pause features guest performances by Jon Hendricks, and her recording credits span a wide range of notable artists. A devoted educator, Atla is Associate Professor of Amplified Voice at University of Rhode Island, teaches for the Yale University Jazz Collective, and is a frequent clinician and advocate for inclusive, student-centered jazz education. She is currently working on a book about learning, writing, and performing vocalese.
