How to Go Viral: Platform Algorithms, Jazz Creativity, and Mastering Modern Visibility What actually makes content go viral—and how can jazz musicians use that knowledge without compromising their artistry? In this forward-thinking clinic, Dr. Quentin Angus breaks down how social media platforms really work, combining algorithmic insight, audience psychology, and the improvisational mindset of jazz to help musicians build a visible, authentic, and sustainable digital presence. Rather than chasing trends, this class focuses on understanding platform behavior so artists can make intentional creative choices that resonate—and travel. Drawing on data-driven analysis and real-world experience as both a performer and content creator, Quentin explores how timing, format, consistency, and musical identity interact online, and how jazz musicians can leverage these tools while staying true to their voice. This clinic is ideal for jazz musicians who want to better understand visibility in the modern landscape—and learn how to let their work travel further without losing its soul. Quentin Angus is a guitarist, composer, educator, and content creator based in New York City, where he is Associate Professor of Music and Program Coordinator of Jazz and Popular Music at Borough of Manhattan Community College (CUNY). Originally from rural South Australia, he has earned international recognition for both his creative work and scholarship, receiving major honors from APRA, ASCAP, DownBeat Magazine, and Channel 9. As a recording artist and bandleader, Angus has released three critically acclaimed albums and performed at major international festivals including Montreux and Melbourne International Jazz Festivals. As a content creator, he has worked with Universal, Impulse, and Verve Records, and brings a rare blend of academic rigor, industry experience, and creative curiosity to this timely and empowering session. This clinic is ideal for jazz musicians who want to better understand visibility in the modern landscape—and learn how to let their work travel further without losing its soul.
